The resonant and much-loved music of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and the timeless stories they tell form the backbone of this bold and engaging celebration of friendship, homeland and the cycles of life. Four outstanding violinists transport us around the four corners of the globe, discovering the four seasons and experiencing how the environment shapes our lives. In Tokyo, surrounded by the ephemeral beauty of the cherry blossoms, Sayaka Shoji leads very young, brilliant students through the Spring Concerto. Niki Vasilakis travels from Adelaide across the parched heat of the Australian outback to Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and onto Waiben (Thursday Island) to perform the Summer Concerto in a monsoonal thunderstorm. Autumn is lively and vibrant in New York with a rich cultural melting pot of musicians revealing their passion for a city they were born in, or chose to make home, to the unforgiving cold and human warmth of a Finnish winter above the Arctic Circle. Superb classical music is interwoven with Indigenous stories and songs about living according to the seasons. A documentary with extraordinarily beautiful landscapes, which crosses borders and time, enhances our understanding of the passion for music and celebrates our homeland.
