When I came to live in Canberra from Scotland in 1969 with my mum, dad and baby sister, it was a traumatic time for me. I was a little girl lost. My family and friends were 12,000 miles away, sometimes the feelings of loneliness were overwhelming, so I spent a hell of a lot of time in front of the tele.
Then one day I found the courage to walk into the cinema on my own and experience my first Australian film on the big screen, 'You Can't See Round Corners' with Rowena Wallace, Max Cullen and Max Phipps. From that day on my life began to change. Actors like Bill Hunter, Jack Thompson and Charles (Bud) Tingwell became my friends...I was hooked.
Australian films are my passion, and I feel privileged in being invited by the AFC to join Big Screen in sharing and celebrating that passion with you. - Denise Roberts |
